Sixty Years on and they are still a hit

We had a fabulous night the other Saturday when members of Thame Shed headed down to The Spread Eagle for a night of music, drinking, eating, dancing and singing (although I accept that last bit might just have been me.)

A lovely lady called Joanna Green had organised the night, which was to raise money for several charities, one of which was Thame Community Shed.

The band in question was The Dung Beatles, who were able to rock out Beatles classics for the best part of three hours (with a couple of tracks from George Harrison as well as Wings to add a bit of variation). If you have never come across The Dung Beatles, they are an Aylesbury/Haddenham-based band covering all of the classics, including both hits and rarely heard album tracks. Described by The British Beatles Fan club as “definitely not your average Beatles band”, since 2013 The Dung Beatles have carved out a unique reputation for performing the music of The Beatles with authenticity, passion and raw energy to sell-out audiences around the UK. The fact that there are five of them just means that you get 20% extra.

Hit of our table was Big Al Shriver, who knew there was such a dancer under that wood-turning smock?

Food was, well, shall we say, eclectic, because we all took our own nibbles along with us. This was much more suitable at an event such as this, and once people started sharing amongst each other, it led to some very unusual taste sensations. If you’ve never followed a French Fancy with a pickled egg, then you are not from the Sixties.

So thanks to everyone who turned up – the best bit? Well, that had to be the fact that the evening raised the magnificent sum of £900 for Thame Shed and in such an enjoyable way.
